Assuming all other factors are the same, how much would differences in electricity grid emission factors influence the final CI of a biofuel. For example, a process such as HTL to produce a biofuel. Thanks in advance.

Jeremy
It depends on the power demand of the process. We see a wide range in the power requirements for different renewable fuels from a low of about 0.05 kWh/litre up to over 1 kWh/litre.
The overall GHG contribution from the power can range from almost zero for low power demand processes and clean grids to 25 g/MJ for high demand systems and coal dominated grids.

Thanks Don,
With regards to the power demand of the process, is there a standard database for the power requirements for the different processes? Or how are those inputs determined?

There is no standard database for this data. The default values in GHGenius are industry averages for those processes that are commercial. For the processes that are still in development the values are based on engineering studies.
I should caution that even for commercial processes there can be a wide range of values within the sector depending on the plant design.
