Tallow to Gasoline was created by orosales
Hi,
I am evaluating Tallow and other vegetable oil conversion to Gasoline by Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC). In the Finished Fuels section, the only available product for gasoline is GASOLINE WOOD. Would this be the correct option for the Tallow-based gasoline or any other vegetable-oil based gasoline?
Also, I want to know if LPG, a co-product of the Tallow cracking process, should be computed as a co-product for emissions displacement.
Thanks!

This is a complex pathway to model as lipids to a FCC will produce gasoline, diesel fuel, and some LPG.
The pathway to use is the HRG pathway, column BV on the Input Sheet. This pathway allows any lipid in the model to be used to produce gasoline.
I usually do a mass allocation for the FCC input so that I know how much lipid is required to produce a litre of gasoline and how much would be required to produce a litre of diesel fuel. The co-products are then apportioned to each pathway based on the relative amounts of gasoline and diesel that is produced.
There is usually some downstream processing of the FCC products that are required to produce finished gasoline and the inputs for all of these process steps must be taken into account.

Hi Don,
Thanks for the quick reply. I believe you are referring to the GHGenius version 5.01. However, GHGenius 4.03a is the only approved version of GHGenius for use in a fuel lifecycle assessment under British Columbia’s low carbon fuel standard (BC-LCFS). Thus, what would be the pathway for converting lipids or vegetable oils to gasoline via FCC in the GHGenius 4.03a?
Regards,
Oscar R.

To do that pathway in GHGenius 4.03a takes considerable changes to the renewable diesel pathway and some of the equations.
S&T has done that for clients but the how to di it is not something that we make public.
Sorry

Hello Don,
One more question about the lipids to gasoline pathway in the 5.01 version. For light duty vehicles in the Exhaust Emissions Tab, what is the correct Net CO2+non CO2 (g/GJ) value for the lipids to gasoline pathway? is it the Gasoline CG (column B ) ?
Regards,
Oscar

The values in column C are the ones that should be used.
