Crude Tall Oil to Gasoline was created by orosales
Hello,

I am looking into calculating the CI of the conversion of Crude Tall Oil, a by-product of the Kraft pulping process, to gasoline via Fluid Catalytic Cracking (GCC). Since this involves converting lipids to gasoline, diesel fuel, and some LPG, I looked into using the HRG pathway. My question is, what would be the best way to represent the Crude Tall Oil as HRG feedstock?

Thank you for your help,

Oscar R.

Crude Tall Oil is not currently a feedstock that is in the model. I would suggest that you use the used cooking oil pathway and modify the pathway to represent the CTO process. That would mean adding the energy and chemicals used to extract the lipids from the CTO. Changes would be made on the Input Sheet (energy use, transportation, yield), and the Alt Fuel production sheet (any chemical inputs).

Hello Don,

If I understand correctly, the best option is to modify the used oil to Diesel pathway to represent the CTO process, am I right? Would it be possible to use the yellow grease pathway?
During the production of CTO, purchased steam derived from biomass energy (black liquor and bark) is used. What would be the best way to define this energy input?

Thanks for your help,

Oscar

Yes, you could use the yellow grease pathway.

Steam from black liquor could be modelled as the input of the quantity of wood required to produce the amount of stream being used. This is the AW246 cell on the Input sheet.
