Electrolysis to produce H2 using grid power was created by tinaliu
Hello,
Looking at the Upstream Results HHV tab column 7 to 22, I see there are 2 columns for "H2 to power" and "H2 to pipeline". It seems like these are the emission intensity for the transportation of H2, not for electrolysis. Does GHGenius have one for H2 production from hydroelectricity and water?

The hydrogen from electrolysis pathway results are found in column CN on the Upstream emission sheet.
The process inputs are in column Q on the inputs sheet.

I see that in the updated version V5.01d, there is "CH2 water" and "CH2 off grid elec" from upstream results HHV tab. What is the difference?
My project is using electric power and water from BC Hydro to produce H2, and distribute within BC. In this case, would I be able to complete the LCA with just one run? Neither CH2 water or CH2 off grid elec considers the transportation of the product, so I assume I will add it myself?

The CH2 off grid elec is a pathway that allows one to use off grid electricity generated by almost any user specified means.
You project will use the CH2 water pathway. The product transportation is included in the pathway. You specify that on the Input Sheet in column BA rows 91 to 101.

for the chemicals used during production, tab "Alt Fuel Prod" column Q row 29 - 78, are these kg of chemical per L H2 or other units? In the examples in the manual these are per L.
Could you clarify what the -0.4% change per year of net electricity purchased is? (Q9)

The values in row 96 to 101 set the mode of transportation. Values greater than one can be input if the shipment is multi-modal.
The units on the Alt Fuel Prod sheet are shown in row 7. They differ with fuels. For hydrogen the unit is one GJ (HHV). The chemicals per GJ of hydrogen are input.
GHGenius can model future emission productions and uses forecasts, extrapolations of historical data or other estimates of how the technology may improve over time. This value has no impact if the model year (B7 on the Input sheet) is the same as the year in row 240 on the Input sheet.

Thank you. I am going through each of the calculations and found out that Elec Emissions B55 = SUMPRODUCT('Power Gen'!B21:M21,B$30:M$30). Power Gen B30:M30 are generation efficiencies for Canada East. It doesn't seem to change even though I changed my Input B4 to BC. Could you please clarify?
I am also not quite following what this calculation is?
I understand that fuel distribution and storage is to calculate emissions associated with storage and handling of fuel products at terminals, bulk plants and service stations. Includes storage emissions, electricity for pumping, space heating and lighting. For the handling of fuel product at terminal, if my project does not include shipping via water, do I still need to include this? What is the space heating and lighting associated with? Thanks

In the formula that you mention the second term refers to the range on the Elec Emissions sheet. It is calculating the weighted average emission intensity of all of the sources of electricity.
For hydrogen the fuel distribution and storage are zero if there is no transportation information entered, so those emissions are related to just the transportation distances.
Similarly if there is no compression of the hydrogen, the fuel dispensing emissions are zero.
Space heating and lighting are related to service station operations.

Cell L66 of "Elec Emissions" shows the emission rate of CH4 for conventional hydro, at 0.9 g/kWh. I am wondering where I can find the reference to find out what this number includes and where the emissions are coming from?

Methane and N2O emissions from hydroelectric reservoirs are from the decomposition of biomass that was either in place when the land was flooded or is added to the reservoir each year by run-off.
The values can vary with climate, reservoir size, and many other factors. The value in GHGenius is a synthesis of some of the available data. Recent papers on the subject include.

Regarding the H2 generation from water, what if a project uses solar PV, but is also connected to the grid when the capacity of PV is not sufficient. In that case, is the produced power by PV entered anywhere or only in "input" sheet, Cell "Q242" the net electricity purchased will be decreased? If not, how the "CH2 from off grid elec" in "Upstream Results HHV" is produced then?
